is it ok for a first try well technically second.
I normmaly do Photoshop like for my current sig but i thought i should try Gimp cuz loads of people use it and see what i can do.

Yeah and blurred the crowd i spent an hour googling how to make a border so i just left it like this
I have to say, better than anything I can do in paint. =D
No offense, but I think you should be able to do better than just adding text. The stock photo is already blurred:
