Well still, it's sort of common sense to know that 10 will be the best number and 1 being the worst

So in a competition, if someone gets 1st place, they are considered losers?

Well no, because it's not a scale of judgement. A competition is just sort of a ladder to see who gets to the top 1st, meaning who ever can complete the objective of the competition first wins and plus it has nothing to do with opinions
