ffemt53's Brain Teasers
Every Sunday i'll post a new brain teaser and will post the correct answer along with the names of the members who got it right on Saturday.
The first Brain Teaser for you.
I love brain teasers. I tell my kids them, all the time.
One day my daughter walk into the house and sees me chuckling.
“What’s so funny?” I she asks me.
“Just a silly little puzzle,” I say.
“Tell me.”
“Okay. See if you can write the number one hundred using six 9’s.”
“You mean, 9-9-9-9-9-9?”
“That’s not how you do it, but those are the numbers.”
How can she do it?
I’ll post the correct answer on September 01, along with the names of the members who got it right.
GOOD LUCK

i dunno... is it 999999? Or 969696 (the six being nine upside down)? TELL ME NOOOOOW.
-
(9 / 9) * 99 + (9 / 9) = 100

Answer to post #1 is
99/99+99=100
Congratulations to Zucker for figuring it out a different but acceptable way.
Another of my Brain Teasers will be posted tomarrow.

Brain Teaser for this week is:
If a bottle and a cork cost a dollar and a nickel, and the bottle costs a dollar more than the cork, how much does the cork cost?
I’ll post the correct answer on September 08. GOOD LUCK.

probably wrong answer
is it 5?... SAY YES... this is so exciting im exploding with excitement!!!!

Code:
A bottle (b) and a cork (c) cost a dollar and a nickel:
b + c = 1.05
The bottle (b) costs a dollar more than the cork (c):
b = c + 1
So we have this:
b + c = 1.05
b = c + 1
---------------------------
In the second equation the b is already isolated on the left so we can replace b in the first equation with c + 1:
c + 1 + c = 1.05
c + c + 1 = 1.05 | c + c = 2c
2c + 1 = 1.05 | - 1
2c = 0.05 | : 2
c = 0.025
Now we only need to replace c in the second equation by its value to calculate b:
b = 0.025 + 1
b = 1.025

You better be wrong >: (

Most people guess 5¢, but $1 more than 5¢ is $1.05, and if the bottle cost $1.05, then the bottle and the cork would be $1.10, not $1.05.
The cork actually costs 2½¢ and the bottle costs a dollar more, or $1 and 2½¢, making the total $1.05.
ZuckeR you said the cork cost $0.025 or 1/4 of a cent.

And ZuckeR is Right. I Made a mistake. Sorry.
