Disturbed...

I know when i started fire fighting, i would see disturbing pictures, and i didnt think i would see them soon after i joined.

January 2 2009, Panhandle oaklahoma, Campers report in a forest fire and are crew was in texas for new years and we had a call from the UTAH state and told us to go help put out the fire and so we did and when i was chopping a tree down i can hear a scream into the distance and my top priority is to save a life so i ran and fallowed the voice and after 2 or 3 minutes of running i found a camp site (still on fire) and theres people on the other side of a river Trapped by fire and the river so i had to find out how deep the river was and it was bout 5 feet deep so i told the people they can cross without a problem and i cross those people to saftey and i have to save 1 more person. A portion of a burning tree falls on top of this guy and in seconds it just lights him up from head to toe. I freaked out at first cause i never seen something this crazy before so i stood there for a minute and i dont know what i was thinking and i threw him in the water and went down and pulled him out and i couldnt look at him so i put him on my shoulders and ran back to the rendevous point back at the truck and sent him off with the survivors and i have nightmares from that and probaly always will because it was my first disturbing site i seen.

its not easy, you have to think so fast before you act and when i start fighting house fires thats going to be worse!

You know, I can relate to that. I dunno, even in the Army, our first priority is to save lives, no matter who they are or of what nationality, strange as that may sound.
I'm not going to give my story, per-se, but yeah... I know what you're talking about. But seriously, if you're having nightmares about it (I know I did...) then you should tell someone other than us, see the rest of your crew or go out drinking with a friend, you know? It may not make sense now, but it definitely helps to share it with others.
Take it easy, man. Keep up the good work. And, heh, if we ever have a 9/11 on our hands, I'm counting on YOU to get me out of my office, okay? :grin:
