Capitano's reviews: Rainbow Six: Vegas 2

Wow, haven't done one of these in ages.

    Presentation
Rainbow Six does not look that great graphically. The game feels right at home on the PS2. The guns look nice, but everything else could use a facelift. The level design, however is excellent. The levels are but fun to play, but also feel rather real, like these could be actual places. Sound design is also top notch, from the satisfying pops of assault rifles to the music. Blood also stays on the ground, so the gunfights feel real. Of coure there is a story, and it's actually quite descent.

    Gameplay
Vegas 2 is more of a slow-paced, tactical shooter. You play as a captain of a squad of three men. Commanding the two AI companions is actually quite fun. Tactical gameplay is always present. A room may have two entry points, so you can attack it on both sides, for example. The gunplay is smooth, and the guns feel like actual guns thanks to the very realistic recoil. Gameplay is never useless: your character gets points for getting certain types of kills, which in terms nets you new guns or a hefty XP bonus. These points are carried in all the games modes, which is a plus. The campaign is also really good, taking some time to complete, and actually being interesting. The other single player mode is Terrorist Hunt, where you pick one of the games multiplayer maps, and are tasked to eliminate a certain number of terrorists. Terrorist Hunt is fun, but the enemy spawning can sometimes lead to undair deaths. Local co-op works well. The online multiplayer seems to work fine, but I don't have Xbox Live, so I haven't tried it. Is Vegas 2 without any problems? Absolutely not. The framerate had a tendency of dropping, and the AI is laughably bad sometimes. There are also some really frustrating moments, but they aren't that bad.

    Final verdict
Rainbow Six: Vegas 2 is a good game. The graphics may not be excellent, but the gameplay is both fun and offers just a right amount of challenge. Final score: 8.0/10.0
