Intention is irrelevant. Many things are enjoyed by people, despite them not being the target audience. My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, with its terrible plot and loose characterizations, was meant for nothing more than a boost to young girls to purchase their merchandise. Adults have gotten into it just as much as the target audience.
Pokemon is for kids, yes. But, that doesn't stop other ages from taking it up as a hobby. It is even played competitively. Nintendo would be stupid to deny Pokemon to these people. Physically prohibit the nontarget audience from generating revenue? Absurd.
There is nothing wrong with a person having hobbies. You should not look down upon someone for what they like.
