I dont care about the validation errors

Some are not errors as they are meta required by yahoo, etc, and the ones it says are not closed "/ >", are closed.

My point is from a "design" of websites, using FF to "check" it is stupid, and will result in a website being full of errors. IE8 is better if building sites, and more secure that FF with the "sandbox"/"In private browsing"/"smart Screeen filter"

I use Opera to check cause it fairly the best in standard compliance.

IE is declining in use over the web. And if you say your website is XHTML, then those are errors. How does "in private browsing" give you more security? It just erases your cookies, history once you close the tab/window. With Chrome, each tab is run in a different process surrounded by a sandbox which is better than a sandbox alone. Firefox and Chrome have their own "smart screen filters" by detecting phishing sites/invalid SSL certificates.

Well again, It is all moot, As IE is the most used/popular browser, Comes default with all windows operating systems, so in the end, the site needs to look right in IE. Ill never use FF.

FF is vulnerable to ID Spoofing, protocol handling bugs, and vulnerable to malicious malware that ruins it.

Not anymore, Firefox is on top at 46% with IE8 at 14%. That article is for Firefox 3.0.7. The current version of Firefox is 3.6.

Well I go by "real world" statistics, and they say world wide 72.7% of users of my site are using IE, and only 17.5% are using FF

Yeah, that is the problem with IE you still have to fix your site because of all its faults, just look at some css developers sites. There are many hacks to make certain designs look as they should in IE.

There is no secure web browser available as there is no secure program at all. IE has its problems like FF has its own.

Well I go by "real world" statistics, and they say world wide 75% of users of my site are using IE, and only 17% are using FF
There would be no problem if all of the browsers were standard compliant. Than it would be totally irrelevant which browser is used by how many people and which one you use yourself.

    Re: Which is better

Well good luck on that. Microsoft is the biggest O/S in the world (I doubt they will lose their stranglehold anytime soon), and as long as they control the market, IE will always be around, and will also be as Microsoft designs it-compliant or not.

From what I have heard xhtml compliance is universally not adhered to as a standard, and so makes little impact on website design, and I also doubt that will change anytime soon.

I dont know about you but I am not gonna go through my entire site and change ">" to "/>", and META to meta, or rewrite the script for "depreciated values" that work fine...It is ridiculous to do that every few years...especially when HTML5 is released.. and it starts all over again with "compliant validation"

I think you mean that Windows has the largest market share. They are developing a new browser, Gazelle, which is based off of C#. And standards should be followed if you declare it in your doctype.

W3C standards are just recommendations so it is up to the browser to implement it correct or not. But if they implement it they should do it right!

I wrote " />" for years, it makes scripts look better in my eyes. HTML5 will not be that much of a change if you are used to xhtml 1.0/1.1 and html 4.01.

If all the browsers would be the same there were no means for someone to change to another, so they try to make people create sites for their browser. When you then go to a site with a different browser and it does not work you get back to use the old one. So i guess this will never end and fanboys of each side will argue about the other sides. It is all about market shares and not the standards, and as the market gets more crowded it will only get worse in the next years.
