Leechers and Seeds are how Peer-to-Peer works:
Leechers - Everyone that has not completed the download yet but can already share the parts he already has.
Seeds- Everyone that has the complete file(s) so he only uploads.
For the viruses and trojans just read the comments like Martin said. Also i never had a problem with downloading viruses, my anti virus does not let me open them anyway so who cares. My concern about torrent and Peer-to-Peer in general is that the traffic gets scanned and you can get sued for downloading films, games etc. That is why i use PeerGuardian to block many IPs.
But i mostly stick to XDCC anyway, Peer-to-Peer is just my last way of getting the stuff i want.
