its a card that makes your computer show video better, also when playing games it makes them lag/glitch less and will show better quality on them, most motherboard have a built in graphics card, but those are useless if you are a pc gamer, so a graphics card is a must for your pc, also it allows you to watch videos/movies with better quality.
