Its so hard to get past Lessons/Chapter 1

ok,two things. on basically the second mission/level/whatever where you go to save gary,when the pokemon try to take the kid,theres this geodude who is invincible. please help?
nevermind,you just have to damage the pokemon *not kill them* and i was trying to use an electric move on a ground type....lol im an idiot
also i cant catch any pokemon,i'm confused..
When hp of pokemon is red, you use the pokeball so you catch her, you're welcome

here is a tip for lessons in chap 1 use confusion with butterfree and electro ball with raichu transfer it from ptd 2 or ptd and rock polish 6 times with graveler and rock blast all bosses
