why is there 2 marios? one in a lugi costume on story and one in his original clothes

one is mario the other is luigi

Bowser's Cloneificator (forgot the real name of it) popped out of the pipe and Luigi kicked Mario in and him and a clone popped out. THATS why there were 2 Marios.
